Default What is the weather today?

I would like to see weather changes in the game. I twoul dbe nice to go out in the desert and suddently have a sand storm that limited your viewing. Or tropical rain in the forest. Or tornados, etc. The weather could also affect your movement... like getting caught in a tornado and be spun around. Yeah..that would be fun.

Would be nice to have but still got to have the dial up crowd. Would be nice to see but they have to keep in within the limits of computers at home and what people subscribe to.

Dial up outnumbers high speed.

But really, it would be nice...at least night/day or rain in the background.

It could all be done in the background and still look good. Lightning anyone?

I have have flashbacks of EQ when this is brought up. This was one of the things I actually miss from that game, weather and day/night cycles. I'm for it and think it would add something to the game.

Ditto...One of my favorite things about EQ2 was the rain storms while running around in the city. Thought that was soooo cool the first time I saw it.

OOoo.

rain on armor + sound.
(might get annoying if environment + characs have sounds for rain. tap...tap.ping...tap.tap.....tap.tap....ping.....t ap...ping....tap. lol.)

/still weather effects would be something new and nice for the game.
+ day/night with it.

i.e. D2 had settings for level of detail you wanted on environment + random weather. so you can choose to get rain, snow, or clear, but w/e you chose, the environmental sounds was still there. It would be more complicated for GW though, since it's 3d and people have different comp. specs/internet connections...

Well, it would be nice to have some sort of Day/Night thing maybe. Some random weather effects would be nice too. I mean, it can't always be so arid over in Ascalon... can it?

They indicated that wanted to try this / consider this. I would love random weather effects.

yes definitely,

WoW is about to implement a similar feature in their game, if Anet wants to get the edge on their competition, any form of dynamic features added to the game will only enhance their player's satisfaction.

Here's another idea, maybe certain day/night weather effects can affect how certain class behaves. Like a thunderstorm somehow will raise the energy storage for elementalists by +2. Or a dark gloomy night that raises soul reaping +1. A foggy day would reduce your aggro range by 1/3. A scorching sun would raise fire damage +1.... etc. (of course none of these bonus will apply in PvP to prevent unforseen opponent advantages).

Day/night, and weather is not really needed, but man would it ever look pretty. Even d2 had weather and the day/night cycle, so I can not see it being too hard to add in, and yes I am aware of the major graphics diffrence between the two games.

Must approve with this, weather effects and subtle bonusses or penalties would make a better challenge. if at all possible in the engine it could make re-exploring more interesting

Now for the day/night cycle:
Most of you will have noticed that this game has a pre-set time for every different map. for instance: riverside province is always in the night and talus chute will have a morning kinda look.

This pre-set time is part of the level design and is very hard to remove without leaving the beauty of the map intact. having a day/night cycle needs a special engine to render the map "real-time" to get the same kinda beauty like GW has now....downside is that this would eat up system requirements big time !

therefore the verdict imho: not gonna happen i'm sorry to say

Although I doubt weather would really matter, a day/night cycle would be nice, perhaps with areas that are affected by it, such as places with nocturnal creatures of vampyric enemies. I'd like the cycle to be short, like over half an hour for 12 hours, and it would freeze the "time" in the cycle at that time when you go into an instance.

I love that, it adds more realism to the game.
At night there should be traders that aren't open in the day, and have them sell more shadowy stuff. And more undead monsters.

I've been thinking of this alot to maybe not weather changes but I'd love to see night and day changes, depending on what the real world is, ofcourse depending on the Realms, Euro would ofcourse follow GMT standards.
But weather changes would be pretty nice too, see snowstorms in the shiverpeaks, raining in kryta and magurma every once in a while, and would be nice to add some windy sounds if it would be windy outside.

Man oh man would weather be awsome. While some of the scenes in guild wars are pretty impressive, a weather system would make it a lot more so. Just think about it, a nice misty / half rainy weather in the night while you're visiting the waterfall in The Falls. that might be a little too complciated, but a simple day/night system would be cool.

I play on dialup, and I'm considering the massive amount of lag We'd get.
